Steppes in Ukraine are typical type of vegetation for central and west part of this country. However, during recent years they become one of the most endangered types of habitat and rate of decrease of area covered by the steppes is extremely high. It has been observed that steppes which have low level of natural productivity and cannot be used for agricultural production, have been afforested on large areas. To save steps the social campaign was initiated "Protection of Ukrainian steps".
