On January 25th a meeting took place during which the representatives of Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection and the Botanical Garden in Lublin, a group of scientists from Lublin and Cracow together with the Naturalists' Club workers discussed the results of
Echium russicum protection and the future plans regarding this rare species.
It was agreed within the discussion that the procedures of planting the specimens from the botanical garden culture in the sites of "Dobużek" and "Zachodniowołyńska Dolina Bugu" will be continued. Continuation of work in the sites of "Dobużek" and "Posadów", consisting of the manual raking of the litter, was also announced. On account of the serious threat of extinction of the natural population of
Echium russicum in the "Dobużek" site and the poor quality of the seeds from the population, the attendees agreed to the attempt to breed new specimens
in vitro. Dr Barbara Nowak of the University of Agriculture in Cracow essayed to conduct the attempt.
