In the end of March the shrub and tree removal conducted on xerothermic grasslands in Odra river valley have finished. The removal was conducted on 17 plots scattered along the Odra river from Owczary to Kurów (i.e. 150 km of the water course). In total, we managed to remove over 22 ha of shrubs, bushes and tree stands. Bearing in mind terrain (high slope of the grasslands) and specific characteristics of removed species the task should be considered as extremely difficult. Despite this we managed to achieve the final result and the grasslands become less shaded, the abiotic conditions were improved and the succession process stopped or even reversed. Now we are going to observe the expansion of xerothermic species on the plots covered with the action.
